Jewish musical world

It was maybe eight years ago, when I have started to listen jewish music, mainly Klezmer. It was also in age, when I was interested specially on Balkan music. Ofcourse, there are some similarities, because Klezmer is one form of jewish music, where are some influences of balkan music.

Klezmer is popular musical style sung mainly in Yiddish. Yiddish is language of Ashkenazi Jews and It is best described, as jewish German language. There are influences of balkan music, turkish music, or roma (gipsy) music.

There are also Sephardic Jews. Those Also, Sephardim means in modern Hebrew ‘Spanish’, so those Jews uses language called Ladino, or jewish Spanish. This languagein in contrast to Yiddish is endangered.

We should not forget on one thing. Thanks to Jews, We have Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. Here is demonstration of Psalm 104 in ancient Hebrew, language of bible

Tamburica and Mandolin

What those instruments have common? In which country those instruments are used in traditional music? Yes, this is Croatia, but We mainly associated Mandolin with italian music, specifically with music from Naples.

Croatian traditional music is sometimes divided on two parts. Slavonian tradition and Dalmatian tradition, but there are also regions, which are not parts of Slavonia or Dalmatia. By those things, We can divided croatian musical tradition to coastal and inland. There are also lot of another styles, but I will describe mainly those, where are Tamburica and Mandolin.

Tamburica is popular in Slavonia and inland regions of Croatia. Tamburica is also popular in neighboring Serbia, specially in region Vojvodina. This region was influenced by historical Hungary and music countains some central european influences or same, like in Vojvodina. Tamburica is also native instrument of Croatia.

Dalmatia was controlled by Veneto, so theyr music is different. There is also some similarities between Klapa and Friulian music too. Klapa is something, like a cappella, but there are sometimes used musical instruments, like guitar, or mandolin. Nowadays, Klapa countains modern music characteristics. I think, that some people, which were in holiday in Croatia, maybe heard those kind of music.

Kandrac’s revolution in Slovakia

In theyr repertoire, there are Slovak, Gipsy and Rusin songs too.

Holiday in Greece

One of the first discovered foreign music was Greek music. I think on Greek music, which is known very best by foreigners not just by visiting of Greece, but sometimes by movie Zorba and main theme composed song. Also, Greek culture is one of the oldest cultures of our world and Greece is considered to be a cradle of european civilization. In the 20th century, Greek modern music was developed and started to be influenced also by oriental music. Famous greek musical instrument ‘Bouzouki‘ is of turkish origin. Due to this, Greeks created unique style of music, which is originally Greek, sometimes without oriental influences.

Here is demonstration of those Greek music, which We know very best.

Music is art of the universe by Indians

Indian classical music is oldest form of classical music. This music was created in the India’s wedic period. Also, indian classical music is not divided and composed, like our western classical music. In this music are laws of the universe.

How is It possible? Indian classical music is tuned not, like our western classical music in the equal temperament tuning, but It is tuned in the pure scale. What It means?
Pure (or just) scales are scaled tuned by overtones. Overtones are tones, which are created by multiples of basic fundamental frequency. Ofcourse, there are many people, which creates another tuning based on just intonation, for example Pythagoras, but this just intonation tuning is based on perfect fifths. Difference of this is only, that Indians used also another ratios of pure tuning, not just one interval, like Pythagoras.

There are two main genres of forms of Indian classical music: Raga and Tala. Raga (or Ragam) is something, like melody. Some ragas are played at some times of days, but those Ragas are not composed, like our music. Tala is something, like rhythm, but this is also not very correct definition. Players of Ragas and Talas interacts with music also. Those people are not composing music, but are rather connected, like with something transcendental.

There are also two main traditions of indian classical music: Carnatic classical music and Hindustani classical music. Word ‘Carnatic’ can say to us, that this word is very related to the word ‘Karnataka’, which is state of south India. Due to this, Carnatic music is played on such indian states, like Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Telangana ETC. It is assumed, that this is first form of indian classical music. Word ‘Hindustani’ is very similar to the word ‘Hindustan’, which means in Persian language word ‘India’. This tradition was created, when India was occupied by Mughal empire. This territory was in the part of North India. Also, Ragas in Carnatic music are very strictly organized and short, but Ragas in Hindustani classical music are very free and long. Mostly in our world is mostly popular Hindustani form of Raga, due to the Ravi Shankar’s popularity. Also, some names of instruments, for example Sitar and Tabla are taken from Persian or Arabic. Those musical instruments are used in Hindustani traditions, but there are a lot of musical instruments.

Indian people says, that greatest musical instrument of those musical instruments is musical instrument, which We have everyone. Yes, this is our human voice. Due to this, there are two previews of vocal indian classical music:

Maybe somebody of You heard about indonesian Gamelan, or You are from Indonesia and maybe know this tradition very well. Balinese gamelan is very wild and hilarious with rapid rhythms:

In contrast, there is also Javanese gamelan, which is more meditative with slower rhythms:

It was, maybe four years ago, when I was interested on bulgarian culture. It started with Chalga pop (bulgarian pop-folk genre), nextly various cultural things and lastly, various kinds of bulgarian folk music.
